“It’s all about the groove.” This bold statement is the driving force behind the career of bass player Jason Langley. A native of Boston, MA, Jason became infected by the grooves of groups like Cameo and Kool & The Gang during his teenage years. He traded in his DJ equipment for a bass shortly after finishing high school and began a story that is far from being finished.
Jason has studied music at both the University of Lowell, MA and Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. He spent the ’90’s cutting his teeth in clubs around New England and beyond and slowly became known for his groove oriented style and dependable pocket. His tastes quickly diversified to include Miles Davis, Sting, Jimi Hendrix, P-Funk, and lots of blues. In his pursuit to fulfill his pasions for music, Jason has left few styles unturned. He has played country on a cruise ship, blues in a juke joint and swing at a ski resort.
Jason was featured in the scouting report of up and coming talent of Bass Player Magazine in April, 1999. After spending a year paying his dues on the New York City scene, he went on to spend the next year on tour with the prestigious Ringling Brothers & Barnum & Bailey Circus. Jason was a proud member of the orchestra for the production Barnum’s Kaleidoscape.
Throughout his career, Jason’s love for the blues has been a predominantly recurring theme.
In 2001, he returned to NYC and secured a gig with the sweetheart of the blues, Shemekia Copeland. Jason toured with Copeland for 3 years and is featured on her third recording for Alligator Records, Talking to Strangers. 2004 found him doing double duty, performing with both Miss Copeland and guitar legend, Elvin Bishop on the B.B. King Summer Tour ’04. The events and contacts from that tour led to one of the high points in Langley’s career, when he was asked to sit in and jam with B.B. King at a New York City performance in Jan., ’05
2009 is a time of great excitement for Jason. He has begun his second year on the West Coast and continues to supply Booty Shakin’ Grooves to some of Los Angeles’ finest as well as joining the cast of the Broadway touring production of the musical “Dreamgirls”.
