“This is the band we have all been waiting for.”- Chris Wood, Multi-Platinum Recording Engineer
Last Exit’s story began in 2007 on the streets of Los Angeles when British guitarist Reg and London based female guitarist Rayne were introduced to vocalist and Oklahoma City transplant Spence Decker; with a mutual love for the classic sounds of bands like Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, and Jeff Buckley the trio immediately began writing together with an energy and cohesiveness that they knew to be something special. Shortly thereafter they were joined by Anthony Anthos, a charismatic drummer from Michigan, and the bands only Los Angeles native Matthew Denis whose driving, dynamic bass playing along with Anthony’s hard hitting drumming cements the bands’ melodic rock sound.
Last Exit quickly established themselves in the Los Angeles’ music scene with standing room only shows at some of LA’s top music venues, including: The Viper Room, The Whiskey, The Dragonfly, Hotel Café, and The Key Club. In October of 2008 the band moved into a studio on Hollywood Blvd. to begin production on their debut album with platinum producer Peter Black and multi-platinum recording engineer Chris Wood; the record was independently funded and co-produced by the band. “We wanted to exercise a level of creative control that has nearly disappeared in the last decade; we were literally looking at our album as a musical self-portrait and we wanted to be as true to our artistic vision as possible.” After recording more than 50 tracks, they choose 13 songs for a limited edition pressing with artwork by world renowned artist Dave McKean.
Last Exit is now back in Los Angeles after their first tour of the United States, having played more than 45 dates in 17 states to promote their debut album ‘Welcome to the Show’; “With a grassroots style approach we’ve had the ability to make a much more intimate connection with our audience; in a viral music world, playing smaller venues allows us to speak to our fans face-to-face.”
They are currently writing and playing throughout California as they prepare for their second national tour in the spring of 2010.
